Softball Runs Winning Streak to Seven

The Griffins headed to Slippery Rock as they continued PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader.

SHU used the arms of two freshmen as they posted two shutouts to run their winning streak to seven straight.  Seton Hill won game one 6-0 behind a complete game one hitter from Lauren Dellett and then completed the sweep with a 4-0 win behind a complete game four hitter from Logan Hartman.  SHU is now 7-1 overall and 4-0 in PSAC West action.

Game one was scoreless until the top of the third inning.  Nina Grandey drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second.  She moved to third on a Dellett bunt base hit.  Samantha Estupinian was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Alexis Vargas' groundout scored Grandey to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Dellett then scored when Jenna Osikowicz reached on an error as SHU led 2-0.

Dellett's RBI groundout knocked in Nichole McClendon who singled to increase the SHU lead to 3-0 in the fourth.  The Griffins put the game away with three runs in the top of the sixth.  McClendon and Christiana Skrabak singled to start the inning.  After a groundout, Dellett was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Estupinian singled to right center field to knock in McClendon and make it 4-0.  Osikowicz singled to left and drove in two more to give SHU the 6-0 lead.

Dellett improved to 4-0 on the season with the complete game one hit shutout.  She struck out four in the win.  McClendon had two hits for the Griffins.  Osikowicz added two RBIs.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in game two until the Griffins cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fifth.  SHU used a walk and a two base error from the Rock to take a 1-0 lead.

Seton Hill then added three runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Morgan Toal drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a bunt base hit from McClendon.  Toal scored on a sacrifice fly from Skrabak as SHU took a 2-0 lead.  After a pop out, Dellett tripled to drive in a run and Grandey added an RBI single as the Griffins extended the lead to 4-0.

Hartman improved her record to 2-0 with a complete game four hit shutout.  Hartman struck out four in the win.  McClendon and Dellett each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU will return to action when they host Walsh on Wednesday in a non conference doubleheader starting at 1 PM.
