The Griffin baseball team hosted Clarion on Thursday afternoon in a non conference single 9 inning contest.
Seton Hill trailed 6-0 but scored 14 consecutive runs in their final four at bats to rally for a 14-6 come from behind victory. SHU improves to 4-0 on the season. Â
Clarion got on the board first in the top of the first inning after a double and a home run gave them a 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles tacked on another run with a leadoff solo homer in the top of the third inning. Clarion hit a three run homer in the top of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 6-0. Â
The Griffins started to chip away in the bottom of the inning. After one out,
Owen Sabol was hit by a pitch.Â
Tommy Pellis and
Derek Orndorff drew walks to load the bases.Â
Jack Oberdorf hit into a fielders cholce but an error on the play allowed two runs to score and cut the Clarion lead to 6-2. Â
In the sixth inning, the Griffins scored four times to tie the contest at six.Â
Jordan Fiedor walked to lead off the inning and later scored on a Sabol RBI single. Pellis was hit by a pitch which set the stage for Orndorff who hammered a 2-1 pitch over the left center field wall to tie the game at six. Â
After a scoreless seventh, the Griffins broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring eight times.Â
Brandon Kline and
Vincenzo Rauso were hit by a pitch to start off the inning. Sabol drew a walk to load the bases and Pellis was hit by a pitch to put the Griffins in front 7-6. After Rauso scored on a wild pitch, Orndorff drew another walk to load the bases. Oberdorf then cleared the bases with a triple to the right center field gap to extend the lead to 11-6. After two more walke, Fiedor knocked in two runs with a single up the middle. Sabol earned the final RBI of the inning with a hit by pitch.
Dylan Bonzo pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the game. Â
Caiden Wood earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning where he stranded the bases loaded with two strike outs to end the threat. Â
Rauso, Orndorff, Oberdorf and Fiedor each had two hits for the Griffins. Oberdorf drove in four runs and Orndorff added three RBIs. Â
SHU returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Salem at 1 PM. Â
