The Griffin women's lacrosse team returned to the field for the first time in 364 days with a non conference road matchup at Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon.
Seton Hill outscored the Raiders 10-2 in the second half in route to a 15-6 victory to open the season.
Back to back goals from
Kristi Kada over a three minute stretch gave SHU an early 2-0 lead.
Kate Kada scored at the 20:12 mark of the half to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead. The Raiders responded with two straight goals in less than a minute as they trimmed the lead to 3-2.
Alaina TeSelle and
Kristi Kada scored back to back goals as SHU built their lead back to three at 5-2 with 3:12 to play in the half. Two goals twenty two seconds apart cut the Griffins lead to 5-4 at the half.
The Raiders were able to control the draws in the first half, with a 9-1 advantage, that allowed them to stay in the game. SHU outshot the Raiders by a 12-8 margin in the first half.
The second half was a different story in the draw control game as SHU won 11 of the 13 draws in the half. That allowed the Griffins to control play and outscore the Raiders by a 10-2 margin.
Elizabeth Tamasitis scored just 14 seconds into the second half to give SHU a two goal lead. The Raiders answered just over a minute later to trim the lead back to one.
Over the next fourteen minutes, the Griffins would outscore the Raiders 8-0 to put the game away. TeSelle and
Hannah Thompson each scored twice during the 8-0 run.
Jaclyn Frank, Kristi &
Kate Kada and
Alyssa Ference each added goals during the 8-0 run. Freshman
Angela Jones closed out the scoring for the Griffins.
The Griffins finished with 33 shots and 27 shots on goal to 14 and 10 for the Raiders. SHU finished with 28 ground balls to just 13 for the Raiders. The Griffins won the draw control battle by a 12-11 margin.
Kristi Kada paced the Griffins with 4 goals and an assist. TeSelle finished with 3 goals and an assist. Thompson added 2 goals and an assist while
Kate Kada added two goals. Frank tossed in a goal and 3 assists. Ference finished with a goal and 2 assists.
Kamille Ward finished with 4 saves to earn the win in cage.
SHU will open PSAC West play next Wednesday when they travel to Indiana (PA).
