Griffins Roll to 67-38 Win at ESU

Behind a balanced scoring attack which saw 12 players score and a defensive effort that held East Stroudsburg to 23 points over the final three quarters, Seton Hill rolled to a 67-38 victory at ESU Friday in the first of two PSAC Crossover games this weekend.

After the teams exchanged baskets to open the game, a score by Katie Nolan and three by Rena Enterline gave the Griffins the lead for good. It was a close first quarter, as Courtney Tomas had a three-point play and later hit a three-pointer and a three from Christiane Frye had Seton Hill in front 18-15 after the first quarter.

The Warriors were still within 24-19 early in the second quarter but Seton Hill took control over the seven and a half minutes leading into halftime. A 15-4 SHU run to close the second period sent the Griffins into halftime with a 39-21 lead. Samantha Kosmacki had six points during the run and Seton Hill had nine different players score in the opening half to propel them to the big lead.

The Griffins continued to pull away after the intermission, as they outscored ESU 17-6 in the third quarter. Nolan had six quick points after the break and Kosmacki, Enterline and Maddy Moore all hit treys in the period, which ended with SHU leading 56-27. With another game coming up tomorrow, the large lead allowed the Griffins to play 13 different players and 12 of them scored at least two points, as Seton Hill cruised to the win to improve to 6-3 for the year and 1-0 in the PSAC.

Nolan finished the night with 13 points and 10 boards for her fifth double-double of the season, while Tomas set a new career-high with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor and 1-for-1 from the foul line. Kosmacki just missed double figures with nine points and also grabbed five rebounds. The Griffin defense, which limited ESU to 29 percent shooting in the game and forced 23 Warrior turnovers, also posted 14 steals, including five by Sonia Sarda and two by Tomas.

Seton Hill will be back in action Saturday night for the second PSAC Crossover tilt, as they play at Kutztown in a 5:30 pm tip-off.
