Seton Hill hosted West Chester in PSAC Crossover action in the McKenna Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Griffins scored the first three points of the game and never trailed again in a 73-53 win over the Golden Rams. SHU improves to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in PSAC play while West Chester falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play.
Just over three minutes into the contest, the Griffins jumped out to an early 15-4 lead on three three pointers from
Cheyenne Trest,
Samantha Kosmacki and
Rena Enterline. Another Kosmacki three pointer extended the Griffins lead to 18-6 midway through the first quarter. The Griffins took a 20-12 lead into the second quarter.
After the Golden Rams hit a free throw to open the second quarter scoring, the Griffins answered with a 13-0 run to build a 33-13 lead with 3:50 to play in the half. Trest had seven of the thirteen points during the run, including two old fashioned three point plays. West Chester then closed the half on a 10-2 run and trailed the Griffins 35-23 at the half.
West Chester fought back to within six points, 40-34, midway through the third period. SHU responded with a 16-0 run to close out the quarter and led 56-34 after three quarters of play.
Courtney Tomas opened the run with the first two baskets.
The Golden Rams got no closer than 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Griffins were able to extend their lead to as many as 24.
The Griffins were very streaky from three point land in the contest. The Griffins hit four of their first six three pointers, then missed their next twenty two before finishing with a 3-6 from three point land.
Trest led the Griffins with 19 points. Kosmacki finished with 15 points and
Sonia Sarda added 12 points. Trest added five assists while Sarda finished with four steals.
Christiane Frye and Tomas each scored seven points in the win.
The Griffins will continue PSAC Crossover action on Saturday afternoon when they host Millersville at 1 PM.
