Women's Basketball Drops Second Straight in D2CCA Tip Off Classic

The Griffin women's basketball team continued play in the D2CCA Tip Off Classic at the Trailhead on Saturday evening when they took on Simon Fraser University out of Canada.  Seton Hill rallied from a big early deficit to take a lead in the fourth quarter but Simon Fraser used a 9-2 run to close out the game for a 71-67 win over the Griffins.  SHU falls to 0-2 while Simon Fraser improves to 1-1.

Back to back layins from Katie Nolan and a three pointer from Sonia Sarda gave SHU a 12-9 lead midway through the first quarter.  Over the final six minutes of the quarter, Simon Fraser outscored the Griffins 20-2 as they took a 29-14 lead into the second quarter.

The Simon Fraser lead ballooned to as many as 19 points but a Nolan basket and a three from Rena Enterline cut the lead to 41-26 at the half.

With Simon Fraser leading 52-36, the Griffins went on a 13-0 run over a four minute stretch to trim the lead to 52-49.  Samantha Kosmacki scored eight points during the run and Christiane Frye added four.  Back to back jumpers from Nolan trimmed the lead to 56-55 at the end of the third quarter.

Two more baskets from Nolan gave SHU a 61-60 lead with 5:53 to play in the fourth quarter.  Baskets from Frye and Kosmacki extended the SHU lead to 65-62 with 3:48 left.  Simon Fraser responded with an 8-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way.

Nolan posted her first double double of the season with 21 points and ten rebounds.  Enterline finished with 11 points and Kosmacki also reached double figures with 10.

SHU will take on the University of Mary on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM eastern time.
