Men's Hoops Drops Non Conference Matchup at WV Wesleyan

Seton Hill played their third contest of the season away from home when they traveled to Buckhannon, WV for a non conference matchup with WV Wesleyan on Monday evening.  The Griffins were able to cut the deficit to two points late but could not get ahead in an 85-79 road loss.  SHU drops to 0-3 on the season while WV Wesleyan improves to 1-2.

The Griffins took an early 5-0 lead over the Bobcats.  Drew Green hit three free throws to open the scoring and Marrek Paola added a basket as SHU took the early lead.  Paola's three pointer gave SHU an 8-6 lead five minutes into the contest.  Midway through the first half, the Griffins led 17-16 after a Ryan Meis three pointer and a Miles Monchecourt free throw.

WV Wesleyan was able to extend their lead over the final five minutes of the half and took a 42-36 lead into the halftime break.

The Bobcats scored the first six points of the second half before a Paola three pointer cut the lead back to nine at 48-39 with 17:22 to play.  Midway through the second half, the Bobcats extended their lead to 18 points at 67-49.  Over the next two minutes, SHU responded with a quick 7-0 run to trim the lead to 67-56.

After trailing 71-58 with 6:47 to play, SHU ran off eleven straight points to cut the lead to two.  Jaylen Stewart opened the run by draining a three pointer.  Two free throws from Green and a layin from Samuel Tabe cut the lead to 71-69 with 3:08 to play.  Wesleyan answered with back to back baskets to extend their lead back to eight.  The Bobcats were able to hit their free throwns down the stretch as they held off the Griffins.

Green led the Griffins with a career high 30 points.  Tabe finished with 15 points and Paola also reached double figures with 11.

SHU will play their home opener on Wednesday when they host Davis & Elkins.
