The Griffin wrestlers opened the 2021-22 season on the road in Belmont, NC at Belmont Abbey College with a dual match on Saturday morning. Seton Hill opened the season in dominating fashion, winning seven of the ten matches, including five with bonus points in a 31-10 win over Belmont Abbey.
Frank Bonura opened the season in style at 125 pounds with a win by pinfall to open the match and give the Griffins an early 6-0 lead in the match.
Joel Cawoski increased the Griffins lead to 9-3 with a 10-5 decision win at 141 pounds.
Logan McKoy earned a hardfought 10-7 win at 149 pounds as SHU increased their lead to 12-3 in the dual.
Tyler Alberts had a dominating performance with a 9-0 major decision win at 157 pounds. That win increased the Griffins lead to 16-3.
SHU then closed out the match with three bonus point wins.
Brandon Matthews won my major decision (12-2) at 184 pounds as SHU increased their lead to 20-10. Brandon Finnerty picked up a big 18-2 tech fall win as SHU built their lead to 25-10.
John Meyers then closed out the match with a win by pinfall at heavyweight as SHU won by a 31-10 score.
SHU will now take part in the NC State Wolfpack Open on Sunday in Raleigh.
