Men's Basketball Falls in High Scoring Affair

The Griffins continued play in the Butler County Chamber of Commerce Conference Challenge in Slippery Rock, PA with a matchup with Notre Dame (OH) on Sunday evening.  Notre Dame won a high scoring contest by the score of 93-86.  SHU falls to 0-2 on the season while the Falcons improve to 2-0 on the year.

An early three pointer from Drew Green and baskets from Samuel Tabe and Aaron Celcis gave SHU an early 7-4 lead over Notre Dame.  Over the next two minute stretch, the Falcons outscored the Griffins 12-2 to take a 16-9 lead with 15:13 to play in the first half.

The Falcons extended their lead to as many as 11 points but three pointers from Ryan Meis, Miles Monchecourt and Jaylen Stewart trimmed the lead to five at 30-25 with just over seven minutes to play.  The Griffins got to as close as two points on a Marrek Paola basket but the Falcons were able to build their lead back to seven at the half, 52-45.

Seton Hill was able to keep the lead within five points over the first five minutes of the second half.  Over the next eight minutes, the Falcons outscored the Griffins 11-2 to take a 76-62 lead with 6:30 to play in the contest.

In the last minute of the contest, the Griffins forced a few Falcon turnovers and converted them into baskets as they cut the lead to five at 91-86 with 14 seconds to play.  Notre Dame iced the game with two more free throws.

Drew Green paced the Griffins with a team high 18 points.  Tabe also reached double figures with 15 points.  Michael Joiner, Paola and Stewart all missed double figures with nine points.
