Seton Hill began their season ending road trip with a road contest at Edinboro on Friday evening. The Griffins fell in three at Edinboro in their next to last contest of the season. SHU is now 12-14 overall and 6-10 in the west while Edinboro improves to 20-5 overall and 12-3 in the west.
The first set was tightly played until Edinboro went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. The Scots built their lead to 21-16 late in the set. Two kills from
Elizabeth Ward and one from
Paige Cole trimmed the Scots lead to 22-20. A block from
Mara Yahner and
Cameron Baril tied the set at 23. The Scots closed out the set by scoring the final two points to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins.
SHU used a Baril ace and a Cole kill to take an early 8-5 lead in the second set. After a
Kaitlyn Lipps kill, the Griffins built a 14-8 lead. Edinboro then went on a 7-1 run to tie the set at 15. With Edinboro leading 21-20, the Griffins answered with a 5-1 run as they took a 24-21 lead. Lipps had a block and kill during the run while
Carrie Leazer added an ace. The Scots scored the next four points to take a 25-24 lead. Baril answered with two kills as they retook the lead at 25-24 but the Scots scored the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 28-26 second set win.
The Griffins took an early 5-1 lead in the third set. Lipps had a kill and Leazer and
Mariela Alvarado added aces in the early portion of the set. Kills from Lipps and Baril gave SHU a 7-3 lead. The Scots then went on a 7-0 run to take control of the set and never looked back in closing out the Griffins.
Baril led SHU with nine kills. Lipps added seven and Ward added five. Yahner finished with five blocks. Oesterling paced the offense with 21 assists. Leazer led SHU with 14 digs.
The Griffins will close out their season on Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst.
