Seton Hill began their season at the Butler County Chamber of Commerce Conference Challenge at Slippery Rock when they met Alderson Broaddus from the Mountain East. Alderson Broaddus outscored the Griffins in both halves in route to a 66-54 win over the Griffins.
Alderson Broaddus hit three three pointers in the first two minutes of the contest to take an early 9-3. They answered a three pointer from
Marrek Paola that opened the contest. The Battlers continued to hit three pointers as they built their lead to 19-6 with 11:51 to play in the first half. Back to back baskets from
Drew Green cut the lead to 19-10 less than a minute later.
The Battlers extended their lead to as many as 17 points in the closing ten minutes of the half but buckets from
Samuel Tabe and Green in the last 1:15 cut the halftime deficit to 36-23.
Michael Joiner and Tabe scored the first two baskets of the second half as SHU trimmed the lead to 36-27 in the early portions of the half, A three pointer from Green and a layin from Paola cut the lead to 42-35 just over five minutes into the half.
The Griffins got to within eight at 58-50 with 2:14 to play but the Battlers closed out the contest with a 8-4 run to earn the victory.
Green paced the Griffins with 14 points. Tabe and Moon each added 11 points. Green nearly missed a double double with nine rebounds.
Aaron Celcis added eight rebounds.
SHU will continue play in the Butler County Chamber of Commerce Conference Challenge on Saturday when they take on Notre Dame (OH) at 5 PM.
