Playing their second match in a three-game road swing, Seton Hill used a goal early in the second half and a strong performance in goal by
Lindsey Pazdziorko to pull out a 1-0 victory at IUP Saturday.
The first half was busy for both keepers. Pazdziorko was tested almost immediately, as she had to stop a shot 33 seconds into the match and she made another save at the 3:15 mark. The Griffins were just as active offensively, firing three shots on goal in the first 15 minutes, but all were stopped. By the end of the half, Pazdziorko made five saves on six IUP attempts and of the Griffins' seven shots, six were saved and the match remained scoreless at the intermission.
After the break, each keeper made a save in the opening minutes of the half, but the next Griffin shot would result in the first goal. In the 59th minute,
Olivia DeLeonibus scored off an assist from
Mikayla Moyer and Seton Hill was in front 1-0.
The rest of the match was in the hands of Pazdziorko and the SHU defense. Pazdziorko stopped a pair of shots 10 seconds apart in the 64th minute and made another stop two minutes later. After making her seventh save of the half in the 79th minute, the Griffin defense clamped down. They didn't allow another IUP shot the rest of the match and Seton Hill secured the 1-0 triumph to improve to 5-9-1 overall and 4-9-1 in the PSAC West.
In earning the clean sheet, Pazdziorko made a dozen saves in the match. The goal by DeLeonibus was her second of the season and also her second game-winner of the year, as she scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Gannon back on Sept. 11th. For Moyer, it was her team-leading third assist of the year and second in the last three matches. She also assisted on the winning goal in SHU's 1-0 win over Clarion a week ago.
Seton Hill will conclude the three-game road stretch on Wednesday with a short journey to Cal. Kickoff for that match is slated for 6 pm.
