Seton Hill made the short trip to California, PA for a PSAC West matchup with the Vulcans on Friday evening. CalU was able to sweep the Griffins by the score of 3-0.
California jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set. Back to back kills from
Paige Cole cut the Vulcans lead to 7-5. Back to back kills from
Mara Yahner and Kierstin Shade along with a
Bobbi Rempe block trimmed the Vulcans lead to 13-11 midway through the set. A 6-3 Vulcan run extended their lead to 19-14. California took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins with a 25-20 first set win.
The Vulcans took an early 9-2 lead in the second set. Seton Hill used a 6-2 run to get back within three points at 15-12.
Riley Rock had two kills in the run and
Shannon Watkins added an ace. The Vulcans responded with a 6-2 run to build their lead back to 21-14. CalU took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 second set win.
CalU again took the early lead in the third set as they built a 9-5 lead before the Griffins called a timeout. The Vulcans continued to build their lead throughout the set and completed the sweep of the Griffins with a 25-13 third set win.
Cole led the Griffins with 8 kills. Rempe finished with 5 kills and Rock added 4. Rock paced the offense with 12 assists.
Carrie Leazer led SHU with 9 digs.
The Griffins will host Pitt Johnstown next Friday evening at 7 PM. It will be Senior Night for the Griffins.
