The Griffin men's soccer team made the trip to Erie for an important PSAC Western Division matchup with Mercyhurst on Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers scored once in the first half and added two more in the second half for a 3-0 win over the Griffins. SHU falls to 8-6-1 overall and 5-2 in the west while Mercyhurst improves to 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the west. SHU will remain in second place, one point ahead of the third place Lakers following today's action.
The Lakers opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when they were able to finish a cross and put it into the back of the net. Mercyhurst carried that 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Bobby White recorded three saves in net in the first half.
Just 2:35 into the second half, Mercyhurst was able to extend their lead to 2-0. The Lakers then put the game away with a third goal in the 65th minute.
The game featured 28 fouls and six yellow cards, four of those yellow cards were on the Lakers.
White finished with four saves in net.
Archie Lock led the Griffins with two shots.
The Griffins are set to travel to Gannon on Saturday evening for a matchup with the first place Golden Knights.
