Griffins Notch Double OT Win Over Clarion

Despite controlling Saturday's match with Clarion throughout, Seton Hill was unable to score until they posted the winning goal with just over a minute left in the second overtime to secure a 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.

After starting the day by recognizing their nine seniors who are playing their final season for the program, the Griffins (4-8-1, 3-8-1 PSAC West) controlled the game flow through the first half, posting a 5-2 advantage in shots, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Three shots were on goal but stopped, including an attempt in the closing seconds of the half. Of Clarion's two shots, one was on net, but Grace Kenyon made the save to keep the match scoreless.

The second half saw Seton Hill turn up the pressure and continually create opportunities, but just couldn't quite finish. The Griffins generated eight corner chances and 13 shots, including five on goal, but Clarion's keeper stopped all five shots. The final SHU attempt with just under four minutes to play was stopped and the match carried into the first overtime.

Seton Hill kept the pressure on in the first extra period with three corners and a pair of shots, but they were still unable to score the winner. The match went to double OT and Clarion started created chances, as the teams had three shots each. Two of the Eagles' chances were off the mark and the other was stopped by Kenyon. As time dwindled down, a foul by Clarion set up a free kick opportunity for SHU. Mikayla Moyer put it on goal, but the Clarion keeper was unable to secure the rebound and Seton Hill's Natalie Maver knocked it home for the game-winner with 1:02 to play in the match.

The Griffins finished the day with season-highs of 23 shots and 14 corners. Maver's goal was her first of the year, while the assist for Moyer was her second. Kenyon made four saves in the victory, which was her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Seton Hill will start a three-match road trip on Wednesday when they travel to Mercyhurst for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
