Seton Hill Downs The Rock in Double OT

After battling through regulation and one overtime period in a scoreless tie, Seton Hill finally came with a 1-0 victory over visiting Slippery Rock Saturday when Elias Vangen headed in the winning goal just 55 seconds into the second extra session.

The first half was evenly played, shown by the teams both registering seven shots apiece and each keeper making a pair of saves. The two Seton Hill shots on net came in the opening 10 minutes of the half, while Griffin keeper Bobby White's two stops came in the last six minutes.

To open the second half, play remained relatively even, although shots were hard to come by for either side. The best scoring chance of the match to that point came in the 76th minute when SHU's Cai Pritchard had a shot from the right side carom off the post. Pritchard had another attempt in the 79th minute stopped, but then Seton Hill had to fend off Slippery Rock's opportunities in the final 10 minutes. White made two saves and one of The Rock's three corners in the final 90 seconds led to a great scoring chance, but a shot by cleared off the line by a Griffin defender with just 14 seconds on the clock to keep the match scoreless and send it to OT.

The first extra period saw just one shot between the teams. Starting the second OT, a shot by Archie Lock was stopped but led to a corner kick. Lock delivered that into the box and Vangen was there with the header that snuck over the goal line to give the Griffins the 1-0 victory. The score was the fourth of the season for Vangen, the most on the team, while Lock's assist gives him a team-leading 10 points for the year.

In goal, White made four saves to post the shutout, giving him five this season.

Next up for the Griffins is another big match, this time a road tilt at Mercyhurst on Wednesday. Seton Hill (8-5-1, 5-1) now stands with 15 points in the conference, while the Lakers (8-3-2, 3-1-2) are lurking with 11 and Wednesday's outcome will go a long way in securing a spot in the top two in the PSAC West. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm.
