Pitt-Johnstown managed a pair of first-half goals and held off Seton Hill the rest of the way, as the Griffins dropped a 2-0 decision to the Mountain Cats Wednesday.
The early part of the match saw each team test the keepers. Seton Hill's
Grace Kenyon stopped a trio of shots in the opening 21 minutes, while the Griffins put two shots on goal that were saved and another that went high. The opening goal of the match came in the 30th minute when a SHU foul in the box led to a penalty kick which UPJ converted for a 1-0 lead. Just a little over 90 seconds later, the Mountain Cats would add a second goal to double their lead to 2-0.
The best chance for Seton Hill came just two minutes after that goal when the UPJ keeper came out of the box, but a loose ball went to
Alexis Garia. Her shot on was on target but a defender managed to get back to clear it off the line and prevent the score. That play kept it a 2-0 UPJ advantage going into halftime.
The Griffins had another great chance five minutes into the second half, but a shot by
Kathryn Penman banged off the post. While the Griffins didn't allow another goal in the match, they were unable to notch a score of their own despite creating chances. The final opportunity was another Garia shot that was denied with six minutes to play and UPJ came away with the 2-0 conference victory.
Seton Hill posted nine shots for the game, with Garia putting all three of hers on net and
Mikayla Moyer fired a pair of shots. In goal, Kenyon made seven saves in the setback.
The Griffins will remain at home for their next match, as SHU will host Clarion in an 11 am kickoff on Saturday.
