Volleyball Sweeps a Pair of Matches on the Weekend

Seton Hill took a break from PSAC West play as they made the trip to Buckhannon, WV for a non conference matchup with WV Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.  SHU dropped the first set but then won three straight to run their winning streak to two with a 3-1 win.  SHU improves to 8-6 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 1-10.  

The Griffins jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first set.  Paige Cole, Mara Yahner and Bobbi Rempe each had a kill during the run.  Late in the set, WV Wesleyan used a 3-0 run and a 4-0 run to take the first set by a 25-23 score.  

SHU scored the first four points in the second set.  Elizabeth Ward and Mackenzie English teammed up for a block on the first two points of the set.  After a kill from Yahner, SHU led 7-1.  WV Wesleyan got closer in the set but a 6-1 run from the Griffins allowed them to pull away after taking a 17-9 lead.  Wesleyan battle back to trim the SHU lead to 21-20 but the Griffins used kills from Cole and Yahner to close out the set 25-23 and tie the match at one.  

Seton Hill built a 15-7 lead in the third set.  The Griffins put the set away with a late 7-0 run which allowed them to take a 22-10 lead.  Ward had three kills and Yahner added two during the run.  A kill from Katie Koziarz and Yahner closed out the set with SHU winning by a 25-12 margin, giving the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  

Back to back aces from Mariela Alvarado put the Griffins in front 10-6 early in the fourth set.  SHU then ran off eight straight points as they built an 18-8 lead.  Cole had four kills during the run.  A block from Cole and Koziarz on match point gave the Griffins the 3-1 win.  

Cole finished with 17 kills and added 10 digs.  Yahner also reached double figures with 11 kills.  Riley Rock ran the offense with 24 assists.  Carrie Leazer led SHU with 18 digs.  She also added three aces.  

The Griffins will continue non conference play on Tuesday evening when they host Point Park.
