Seton Hill solidified their place in the top two in the PSAC West, as they built a two-goal lead and held off Slippery Rock for a 2-1 road victory Saturday.
The match started off with a flurry of action, as SHU had two shots and The Rock had three attempts in the opening 10 minutes. The opening goal came at the 9:54 mark when a foul in the box led to a PK attempt for Seton Hill.
Archie Lock converted the kick, his second goal of the season, and the Griffins had a 1-0 lead. That advantage would stand up through the first half, as keeper
Bobby White made six saves and it was a one-goal lead at the break.
The start of the second half also featured scoring chances for both teams. Seton Hill would tack on a second goal in the 56th minute, as Locke struck for his second of the match with an assist from Aston Dupont Linden. Locke's third goal of the season doubled their lead to 2-0.
Slippery Rock would trim their deficit in half with a goal in the 60th minute and spent the rest of the game trying to get the equalizer. Although the Griffins were outshot 10-3 in the second half and 19-8 for the match, they managed to hold off home team. Keeper
Nicolas Lancaster, who subbed in late in the first half, made three saves, including a stop with six minutes left. Slippery Rock's final shot attempt with over three minutes to play was wide and Seton Hill held on for the victory.
With the win, the Griffins improve to 7-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC and now with 12 points in the conference, they remain one behind Gannon for the top spot in the league. Seton Hill will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Notre Dame (Ohio) in a non-conference match at 4 pm.
