Seton Hill opened their Florida trip with a matchup with fellow PA school the University of the Sciences in Auburndale, Florida on Saturday morning.
The Griffins scored in five of the nine innings in route to a 12-8 victory over the Devils. SHU is now 5-2 on the season.
SHU scored three times in the top of the second inning. With one out,
Jordan Fiedor tripled and later scored on a passed ball.
Tyler Zaluski who drew a walk later scored on an error and
Derek Orndorff later scored on a double steal to make it 3-0. Sciences tied the game at three after three innings.
The Griffins then scored four times in the fifth inning. With one out,
Tommy Pellis singled.
Tanner Froehlich singled to put two runners on. Pellis scored when
Parker Denny singled. Fiedor was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Zaluski followed with an RBI single and Orndorff added a two RBI single to make it 7-3.
Sciences got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. Froehlich added an RBI double and Froehlich scored on an error to put SHU in front 9-5 in the sixth. Seton Hill added two more in the seventh inning. Orndorff scored on an error and Pellis added an RBI single.
SHU added another unearned run in the ninth for their final tally.
Froehlich led the Griffins with four hits. Fiedor finished with three hits. Zaluski added two.
George Coyle earned the win, working the first five innings.
SHU will continue play on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM against Wilmington University.
