Baseball Splits a Pair With Walsh

Seton Hill hosted Walsh in a non conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Greensburg.

SHU used the pitching of Jared Kollar in game one for a 2-0 victory.  Walsh then rallied to score nine times in their final two at bats for a 10-6 come from behind victory over the Griffins in game two.  SHU is now 4-2 overall while Walsh is now 2-1.

Game one was a very clean baseball game that only took one hour and fourty two minutes.  The only runs that were scored in the game were in the second inning.  Jordan Fiedor tripled over the right fielders head to lead off the inning.  He scored on a bunt base hit from Parker DennyDerek Orndorff singled to put runners on first and second.  Denny then scored from second on an error on a pickoff attempt at second base to put the Griffins in front 2-0.

Griffin starter Kollar did not face much trouble throughout his outing besides the fourth inning.  Kollar walked the first two hitters before giving up a single to load the bases with no outs.  Kollar then got two swinging strikeouts and a strikeout looking to end the inning.

Orndorff was the lone Griffin with two hits in game one.  Kollar went six innings, giving up no runs on six hits while striking out ten.  Caiden Wood pitched a scoreless seventh for the win.

SHU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two.  Owen Sabol led off the inning with a single.  Sabol then beat the throw to second on a ground ball from Tommy Pellis to put runners on first and second.  Both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  Sabol scored on a Tanner Froehlich ground out and Pellis scored on a wild pitch to give SHU a 2-0 lead.

The Griffins added two more runs in the second inning.  Isaiah DiAndreth tripled to lead off the inning and scored when Sabol homered with two outs.  Walsh cut the lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning.  SHU got that run right back in the bottom of the inning.  With two outs, DiAndreth reached on an infield single and Tyler Zaluski singled to put two runners on.  Jack Oberdorf followed with a single up the middle to give the Griffins a 5-1 lead.

Singles from Sabol and Pellis allowed Froehlich to add an insurance run in the seventh with another RBI groundout.

Walsh took advantage of two walks in the eighth inning to score three times to cut the SHU lead to 6-4.  The Cavaliers then broke open the game in the ninth as they scored six times on six hits.  They used a three run homer to take an 8-6 lead and added two more runs with another two runs shot two batters later.

Sabol and DiAndreth each had three hits in game two.  Zaluski added two hits.  Marshall McGraw worked the first six innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out ten.

SHU will return to action next Saturday in Florida as they head south for their spring trip.
