Softball Splits With Wheeling

GREENSBURG -  The Seton Hill University softball team split a pair of non-conference games to Wheeling University, winning the first game 6-5 before dropping the second 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at the Seton Hill University Softball Complex.

// NOTABLES

• Seton Hill moves to 3-4 overall on the year, while Wheeling is now 1-1.
Christiana Skrabak hit a whopping .714 on the day with five hits including two triples, two RBI's, and two runs scored.
Alexis Vargas hit .571 with four hits, three RBI's, and a run scored.
Nichole McClendon batted .500 with three hits, three RBI's, and two runs scored.
Laken Ryen and Morgan Toal had two runs scored apiece.
Chelsea Rohan had herself a two RBI day.

// GAME 1

•  Christiana Skrabak was the Game 1 hero, scoring the game winner in the bottom of the seventh to lift SHU to a 6-5 win. The senior from North Huntingdon, PA hit a triple down the right field line before an errant throw from the Wheeling right fielder wasn't picked up and allowed her to cross the plate.
Skyla Greco picked up the Game 1 win, pitching all 7.0 innings in the circle for SHU. Greco gave up five runs while walking five and striking out two during her outing.

// GAME 2

• Wheeling came out swinging in the second game, scoring seven (7) runs in the first inning of Game 2. After Wheeling picked up another in the second, Seton Hill would start to chip away at their 8-0 lead. First, the Griffin's picked up three runs in the second before scoring two more in the fourth to cut the deficit to 8-5. Laken Ryen's bomb to left field in the 5th made it just a two run advantage, and SHU would plate one more 6th to bring them to within just one, 8-7. However, the Griffin comeback attempt would be curtailed when the game was called due to darkness before the start of the 7th inning with Wheeling picking up the win, 8-7.
Shaelynn Myers picked up the Game 2 loss, surrendering 8 runs on six hits while walking 9 in 5.0 innings pitched for SHU.
