Seton Hill made the trip to Mount Olive, NC to take on #11 Mt Olive in a battle of highly ranked teams on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins jumped out to an 8-5 lead at the half and outscored the Trojans 3-2 in the second half for an 11-7 road win. SHU is now 3-0 on the season while Mt Olive falls to 3-1.
The teams exchanged goals in the first five minutes of the contest with
Zack Estabrooks tying the contest at one. Goals from
McGarity Harper and
Dan Rupert just over a minute apart gave SHU a 3-2 lead with 6:37 to play in the quarter.
Ryan Manbeck scored with just over four minutes to play in the quarter as SHU took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.
Mount Olive tied the score at four early in the second quarter but the Griffins responded with three goals in a row to take a 7-4 lead. Harper,
Logan Maloni and
David St Clair scored during the 3-0 run. After a Trojan goal,
Peyton Gensler scored with 2:47 to play in the half and SHU took an 8-5 lead into the halftime break.
Robert Hofseth and Estabrooks scored early in the third quarter to push the SHU lead to 10-5 with 10:29 to play. The Trojans scored the only other goal of the quarter as SHU led 10-6 heading to the fourth.
The Trojans scored early in the quarter but a goal from Estabrooks with 3:34 to play in the contest put the game away.
Estabrooks led the Griffins with three goals. Harper finished with two goals. St Clair added a goal and two assists while Manbeck added a goal and an assist.
Kevin Mo added 11 saves to earn his third win of the season.
Logan Gray was 9-15 in faceoffs.
SHU will return home to host New York Tech next Saturday at noon.
