The Seton Hill women's lacrosse team began their 2020 season with a home non conference matchup with Bloomsburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The Griffins built an 8-4 lead and hung on for an 8-7 win in the season opener to improve to 1-0 on the season.
Both teams got off to slow starts as it took the teams nearly ten minutes to get on the scoreboard. Bloomsburg got on the scoreboard first but the Griffins answered back twelve seconds later on a goal from
Kristi Kada to tie the score at one. Bloomsburg took a 2-1 advantage but
Kristi Kada scored her second of the game to tie the match at two with 21:50 to play.
After a Huskie goal,
Kristi Kada scored her third to tie the game at three and less than two minutes later,
Taylor Fox-Trudel gave SHU a 4-3 lead with six minutes to play in the half. SHU took that 4-3 lead into the halftime break.
Less than seven minutes into the second half,
Jaclyn Frank increased the SHU lead to 5-3 with an unassisted goal. At the 23:12 mark, the Huskies cut the SHU lead to 5-4. SHU then answered with three straight goal to build an 8-4 lead with 11:34 to go. Kristi and
Kate Kada along with Fox-Trudel scored the three SHU goals.
Two quick goals from the Huskies in a 1:30 stretch cut the Griffins lead to 8-6 with 6:12 to play. They closed the lead to one with 2:13 to play but the Griffins were able to get a save from
Kamille Ward and forced two Huskie turnovers to close out the game.
Kristi Kada paced the offense with 4 goals and an assist. Fox-Trudel added 2 goals and an assist. Frank finished with a goal and 2 assists. Ward recorded 8 saves in cage.
The Griffins will host Jefferson on Sunday afternoon at noon.
