Softball Splits Again in Myrtle Beach

Seton Hill continued play in Myrtle Beach at the SnowBird Freeze Out Tournament on Saturday afternoon. 

The Griffins battled LeMoyne in the first contest of the game and then took on Lock Haven in the second game of the day.  LeMoyne scored seven runs in two different innings in route to a 19-8 victory over the Griffins.  SHU scored three times in the sixth inning of game two for a 7-5 come from behind victory over Lock Haven to earn the split.  SHU is now 2-2 on the season. 

SHU took a 3-0 lead over LeMoyne in the first inning of game one.  Laken Ryen singled in a run and Morgan Toal added a two run single to put the Griffins in front.  The Dolphins added a single run in the third and added seven more in the fourth for an 8-3 lead.  They added four more to take a 12-3 lead in the fifth. 

Ashley Boehm added a three run homer in the fifth to cut the lead to 12-6.  Morgan Hans and Natalia Greco each knocked in runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 12-8 but the Dolphins scored seven times in the seventh inning to close out the scoring. 

SHU took a 1-0 lead over Lock Haven in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff homer by Alexis Vargas.  With two outs in the second, Vargas singled and scored on a Jenna Osikowicz single to put the Griffins in front 2-0. 

Lock Haven used a three run homer in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead.  Ki Givens knocked in two runs in the bottom of the inning to put the Griffins back in front 4-3. 

The Bald Eagles took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning with a two run homer.

In the SHU sixth inning, Vargas and Osikowicz singled to lead off the inning.  Samantha Estupinian moved both runners up with a bunt.  Chelsea Rohan followed with a two RBI double to put the Griffins back in front 6-5.  Greco doubled in Rohan for an insurance run. 

Osikowicz went 4-4. Vargas added 3 hits including a homer. Rohan added 2 hits. Nichole McClendon earned the win in relief.

SHU will close out the tourney on Sunday morning when they take on WV State.
