Seton Hill took a break from PSAC play on Tuesday evening as they hosted Salem University in a non conference matchup in the McKenna Center.
Senior guard
Sydney Rabold tied a SHU single game record with 13 assists and
Cheyenne Trest added 10 assists as the Griffins defeated the Tigers 90-71 behind four players scoring in double figures. The Griffins improve to 13-10 overall.Â
Katie Nolan hit two free throws and
Lexi Civittolo added a three pointer as SHU took an early 5-0 lead over Salem. Another Civittolo three gave SHU an 8-7 lead three minutes into the contest. Salem was able to build their lead to 22-12 with two minutes to play in the half. The Griffins closed the half on an 8-2 run and trailed 24-20 at the end of the first quarter.Â
SHU hit three three pointers in the first two minutes of the second quarter, one by Trest and two from
Rena Enterline to take a 29-27 lead. Six straight points from Civittolo and four straight from Nolan allowed SHU to take a 39-32 lead midway thru the quarter.Â
Tiana Stewart then hit three pointers on back to back possessions as SHU extended its lead to 47-36 with 3:13 left before the half. SHU took a 49-40 lead into the halftime break.Â
Stewart continued her hot shooting as she hit a three to open the second half and Civittolo followed with a basket as SHU pushed their lead to 54-40 a minute into the third quarter. After a Tiger three, Nolan hit back to back layups and Enterline followed with a three as SHU built their lead to eighteen points. A three point play from Nolan extended the SHU lead to 66-46 midway thru the third quarter. The Griffins led 72-54 at the end of the third quarter.Â
Three straight layups to open the quarter, one from Stewart and two from Rabold gave SHU its largest lead of the game, 78-54 with 8:28 left in the contest. Salem would get no closer than 15 in the quarter as the Griffins cruised to the win.
The Griffins finished the contest with 29 assists on 34 made field goals while shooting 48% from the floor.Â
Civittolo led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points. Nolan finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Stewart added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Enterline added 13 points in the win. Rabold finished with 13 assists, 4 steals and 4 points. Trest added 10 assists.Â
SHU will jump back into PSAC West play on Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 1 PM tip off.Â
