Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stewart, Nolan Post Double Doubles in Loss

Seton Hill continued its two game road swing with a PSAC West matchup at Clarion on Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins outscored Clarion 16-10 in the fourth quarter but came up just short in a 68-66 loss to the Golden Eagles.  SHU falls to 12-8 overall and 7-7 in PSAC play while Clarion improves to 4-17 overall and 2-12 in PSAC play.

SHU took an early 5-2 lead in the contest on a three pointer from Cheyenne Trest and a basket from Katie Nolan.  Clarion answered with nine straight points to take an 11-5 lead  midway thru the quarter.  Rena Enterline cut the lead to 13-10 at the 4:45 mark with a three pointer.  The Eagles built their lead to 19-10 but a basket from Tiana Stewart trimmed the lead to 19-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Two quick buckets from Nolan early in the second quarter cut the lead to 21-17.  Back to back three pointers from Kelly Weeks got the Griffins to within two at 25-23 midway thru the quarter.  Two jumpers from Stewart cut the Eagles lead to one but Clarion took a 34-31 lead into the halftime break.

Clarion opened the second half with a 14-6 run over the first four minutes to take a 48-37 lead.  A three pointer from Stewart and a Samantha Kosmacki bucket cut the Eagle advantage to 50-46 with four minutes to play.  Clarion carried a 58-50 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Griffins scored the first seven points of the quarter to trim the Clarion lead to 58-57 with 7:40 to play.  Jumpers from Enterline and Sydney Rabold tied the contest in the middle portion of the quarter.  A steal from Rabold and a Lexi Civittolo layup gave SHU a 64-63 lead with 2:39 to go.  Clarion answered with four straight before Nolan cut the lead to 67-66 with 1:55 to play.  Neither team was able to hit a basket and SHU had the ball under their own basket with 16 seconds to go but a turnover gave the ball back to Clarion.  SHU fouled and Clarion hit one of two free throws with six seconds to go.  SHU called a timeout to advance the ball but again turned it over and Clarion ran out the clock.

Nolan and Stewart each posted double doubles in the loss.  Nolan scored 14 points and added 12 rebounds.  Stewart finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Trest and Civittolo each added 8 points.

SHU will return home to host Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening.
