Seton Hill and Gannon met on Wednesday evening in a matchup between two of the top teams in the PSAC West.
Turnovers were costly for the Griffins as they saw their winning streak end with an 87-70 loss to the Knights. SHU falls to 11-2 overall and 6-2 in PSAC action while the Knights improve to 11-3 overall and 7-1 in PSAC action.
SHU had 21 turnovers which led to 35 Gannon points.
The Griffins took a quick 7-3 lead just a minute into the contest behind five points from
Lexi Civittolo. After Gannon took a 10-9 lead,
Katie Nolan put the Griffins back in front 11-10 with a basket with six minutes remaining in the quarter. Another Civittolo basket put SHU in front 13-10 at the first quarter media timeout.
Cheyenne Trest hit a three pointer at the end of the quarter to give SHU a 19-18 lead.
Gannon used a 12-2 run to take a 30-23 lead four minutes into the second quarter. Nolan got a put back after an offensive rebound to trim the Gannon lead to 32-27 with thee minutes to play in the half. She did the same exact thing on the next SHU possession to cut the lead to three. The Knights closed the half with a 6-0 run to take a 38-29 lead into the halftime break.
After scoring the last six points of the second quarter, the Knights scored the first six points of the third quarter to build a 44-29 lead forcing the Griffins to take an early timeout in the second half.
Sydney Rabold ended the Knight run with a three pointer to trim the lead to 44-32. A second Rabold three made the score 48-37 with six minutes to play in the quarter. The Knights closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 65-49 lead into the fourth quarter.
Rena Enterline hit a three pointer to cut the Knights lead to 69-52 early in the fourth quarter. The Knights were then able to extend their lead to as many as twenty five points in the fourth quarter.
Trest led the Griffins with 15 points. Nolan added 14 points and Civittolo added 12.
Tiana Stewart tossed in eight for the Griffins.
SHU will return home to host Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon for another PSAC West contest.
