Seton Hill returned home to host Slippery Rock in PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.
The Griffins hit two late three pointers and added three of four free throws down the stretch as they rallied for an 82-76 victory over the Rock. SHU improves to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in PSAC action while the Rock drops to 3-12 overall and 1-8 in PSAC play.
Lexi Civittolo opened the scoring in the contest, draining a three pointer five seconds into the game.
Katie Nolan scored the next five points as SHU built an early 8-4 lead. A three pointer from
Tiana Stewart and a layin from Civittolo pushed the SHU lead to 16-9 with four minutes to play in the quarter.
Taylin Tyler's basket extended the lead to double figures at 20-10 with 2:54 to play in the first quarter. SHU took a 25-16 lead into the second quarter of action.
After a Rock basket to open the second quarter,
Kelly Weeks drained a three pointer to extend the SHU lead back to double figures at 28-18. The Rock was able to battle back and tied the score at 33 with 3:35 to play. Stewart hit a three to put SHU back in front. The Rock closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 40-38 lead into the halftime break.
With the Rock leading by five, Nolan finished a layup and
Sydney Rabold hit a three to tie the score at 43 early in the third quarter. The third quarter featured seven ties and four lead changes with neither team holding more than a three point advantage. The Rock took a 61-59 lead into the fourth quarter of action.
The fourth quarter had four ties and three lead changes in a back and forth quarter. With the score tied at 63,
Samantha Kosmacki hit a layup and Stewart went two of two from the line to take a 67-63 lead with eight minutes to play. After the Rock took a one point lead, Tyler put SHU back in front 69-68 with 5:47 to play. A Kosmacki three pointer gave SHU a 72-69 lead with 4:34 to go. With the game tied at 73, Kosmacki hit another three pointer to give SHU a 76-73 lead with 1:18 to play. Two Rock free throws cut the lead to one before Rabold hit a huge three pointer to increase the lead to 79-75 with 39 seconds to go. SHU was able to put the game away by going 3-4 from the line.
Nolan led five Griffins in double figures with a double double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Civittolo led the Griffins with 15 points. She also added nine rebounds.
Cheyenne Trest added 11 points and seven rebounds. Both Kosmacki and Stewart reached double figures with 10 points. Rabold finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Griffins play game two of their three game homestand on Wednesday evening when they host CalU at 5:30 PM.
