Seton Hill returned home to the McKenna Center on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Pitt Johnstown in a PSAC West matchup.
Junior guard
Cheyenne Trest scored her 1,000th career point in the first quarter but the Mountain Cats used a huge first quarter in route to a 79-65 victory. SHU falls to 12-6 overall and 7-6 in PSAC play while UPJ improves to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in PSAC play.
After UPJ jumped out to a 4-0 lead,
Cheyenne Trest hit a three pointer to get to 999 career points. Trest then reached the 1,000 career point with a jumper at the 6:24 mark of the first quarter to trim the UPJ lead to 11-6. UPJ was able to build their lead to 28-15 with two minutes to play in the first quarter, forcing a Griffin timeout. UPJ was able to take a 33-19 lead into the second quarter.
Midway thru the second quarter, back to back threes from Trest and
Samantha Kosmacki cut the lead to 37-31. The Mountain Cats built their lead back to 46-33 with a minute to play in the half. Two Kosmacki free throws cut the UPJ halftime lead to 46-35.
The Mountain Cats opened the second half on a 13-6 run to build their lead to 59-41 midway thru the third quarter. The Griffins were able to cut the UPJ lead to 64-52 after three quarters of play.
The Griffins tried to make one last run at UPJ as they were able to cut the UPJ lead to seven on a
Madelyn Fischer three pointer with 7:36 to play. SHU was able to get back to within eight but UPJ put the game away down the stretch with hitting free throws.
Trest led the Griffins with a game high 21 points.
Katie Nolan finished with 17 points and
Lexi Civittolo added 12.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Wednesday evening when they travel to Indiana (PA).
