Civittolo's Career High Not Enough vs Ship

After pushing back the game a day because of the weather, the Griffins hosted Shippensburg on Sunday afternoon in a PSAC Crossover matchup.

Lexi Civittolo scored a career high 28 points but it was not enough as Shippensburg won a fast paced back and forth contest by the score of 89-82.  SHU falls to 12-4 overall and 7-4 in PSAC play while the Raiders improve to 11-6 overall and 8-3 in the PSAC.

Samantha Kosmacki got the Griffins on the board first as she hit their first shot of the game, a three, to put SHU in front early.  The Raiders scored the next four points before the Griffins scored ten straight points to take a 13-4 lead with just over five minutes to play in the quarter.  Civittolo book ended the run with three pointers.  The Griffins would not score the rest of the quarter as the Raiders took a 22-13 lead after the first quarter of play.  Ship closed the quarter on an 18-0 run.

The Raiders opened the second quarter with a basket before Katie Nolan hit a free throw to end the 19-0 Raider run.  Civittolo followed with a bucket and Tiana Stewart hit a three to cut the lead to 24-19 with just under eight minutes to play before the half.  Seven straight points from the Griffins over a 50 second span tied the game at 26 with 6:35 to play.  With Ship leading 34-28, Stewart hit two free throws and Nolan finished a layup in the final minute as the Griffins cut the lead to two at 34-32 at the half.

Shippensburg built their lead up to nine points early in the second half but five straight from Civittolo trimmed the lead to 43-38 with 6:07 left in the quarter.  The Raiders pushed their lead to as many as 13 points in the third quarter but a three pointer from Stewart cut the lead to 62-53 at the end of the third quarter.

Stewart's three pointer cut the lead to 64-58 early in the fourth quarter.  The Raiders were able to build their lead to 11 with 6:51 to play.  Two layins and a three pointer from Civittolo cut the lead to 74-70 with 4:55 to play.  Two Nolan free throws cut the lead to 74-72 with just over four minutes to play.  The Raiders pushed their lead back to seven before an old fashioned three point play from Cheyenne Trest cut the lead to 81-77 with 1:40 to go.  After a turnover Nolan hit two free throws that cut the lead to two with 1:16 left.  The Lakers were able to put the game away going 6-6 from the free throw line down the stretch.

Civittolo led the Griffins with a game high and career high 28 points.  Stewart finished the game with 19 points.  Nolan posted another double double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Trest just missed a double double with 12 points and nine assists.

The Griffins will travel to Edinboro on Wednesday evening looking to end a two game skid.
