After having their season opening tournament at Embry Riddle cancelled by the hurricane, the Griffins were able to make a change in their plans and take part in the Ferris State Tournament in Big Rapids, Michigan this weekend. The Griffins opened play in the tournament with a pair of matches on Friday.
SHU opened the tournament with a sweep of Wayne State on Friday morning. SHU then completed the 2-0 day with a sweep of Ohio Dominican on Friday afternoon.
In the first set against Wayne State, the Warriors led throughout. SHU trailed 23-20 before an
Erin Parks kill and a
Viktoria Farian ace tied the score at 23. After the Warriors took a 24-23 lead,
Jillian Livorse tied the set at 24 with a kill.
Cameron Baril and
Jessica Hanson combined for a block and Livorse ended the set with a kill.
The Griffins jumped out to an early 10-6 lead in the second set. The Warriors battled back to tie the set at 16. SHU answered with a 7-0 run to take control of the set.
Veronica Johns added an ace and Farian had three kills during the run. They took the second set by a 25-20 score.
The third set with tightly played throughout with the Griffins using a late 4-2 run to put the set and match away with a 25-21 win.
Farian led te Griffins with a match high 17 kills. Livorse finished with 9 while
Erin Parks added 6. Hanson finished the match with 5 kills. Hanson also added 3 blocks. Baril ended with 15 assists, 10 digs and 2 blocks. Tyalor Sabol led the team with 18 assists. Farian posted a double double with 13 digs. Johns had a team high 19 digs,
Seton Hill pulled away from Ohio Dominican in the first set with a 5-0 run that gave them a 20-14 advantage. The Griffins took the opening set by a 25-20 margin.
The Griffins built an early 9-3 lead in the second set against the Panthers. They were able to cruise to a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 second set win.
SHU took an early 6-2 lead in the third set. Ohio Dominican battled back and tied the set at 21. Farian gave SHU a 22-21 lead with a kill. The Panthers got to a first set point but a Farian kill tied the set at 24. Livorse fought off another set point with a kill and tied the set at 25. Parks gave SHU a 26-25 lead but two straight from ODU gave them a 27-26 lead. They led 28-27 before back to back kills from Livorse and one for Farian gave the Griffins the match with a 30-28 win.
Farian again led the Griffins with a match high 14 kills. Livorse also reached double figures with 10 kills. Parks hit .500 with 9 kills in 18 attempts. Sabol paced the offense with 24 assists. Hanson led the team with 3 blocks.
Danielle Nese led the Griffins with 11 digs. Farian and Livorse each added 9.
SHU will return to action in Big Rapids on Saturday with two more matches. They will take on New Haven at noon and #12 ranked Ferris State at 6 PM.
