Seton Hill began their defense of their back to back PSAC Championships with a first round matchup with top seeded Millersville on Wednesday evening at Point Stadium. Millersville jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed in a 8-5 win over the Griffins. SHU falls to 29-20 while Millersville improves to 38-12.
The Marauders opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. They used a one out walk and a two run homer to take a quick 2-0 lead.
Millersville increased their lead to 4-0 in the second inning with three singles.
The Griffins got back in the game in the top of the fifth inning. They did all of their work with two outs.
Andrew Chuba had a two out infield single.
Austin Braendel was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second.
Chris Law followed with a three run opposite field homer on a 1-1 pitch to make it 4-3.
Millersville got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning. SHU answered with a run of their own in the top of the sixth.
Isaiah DiAndreth tripled with one out. He scored on a sacrifice fly from
Parker Denny.
Millersville added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to increase their lead to 7-4.
Back to back hits from
Nick Stotler and DiAndreth put runners at first and second with one out in the eighth. Both moved up on a wild pitch and Stotler scored on a Denny sacrifice fly.
Chuba was 3-3 for the Griffins. DiAndreth went 2-2, reaching base four times. Law drove in 3 runs and Denny drove in two.
The Griffins look to remain alive in the tournament when they meet Mercyhurst at 12:30 PM on Thursday in an elimination game.
