Seton Hill looked to avoid elimination for the second straight day as they met PSAC West foe Gannon at Sargent's Stadium in Johnstown on Friday evening. SHU struck for a six spot in the seventh inning as they eliminated the Golden Knights with a 10-6 victory. SHU improves to 31-20 and Gannon is now 32-15.
Gannon used two infield singles and a home run to take an early 3-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the first inning.
The Griffins responded for two runs in the top of the second inning. Three doubles accounted for the runs.
Nick Stotler led off the inning with a double. After a strikeout,
Ryan Grieco and
Bayley Jamanis had back to back RBI doubles to trim the lead to 3-2.
SHU tied the game at three in the fourth inning.
Nick Stotler drew a leadoff walk and he eventually stole home to tie the score at three. Gannon did not waste any time in retaking the lead as they took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the inning.
Seton Hill tied the game at four in the fifth. After an out,
Parker Denny was hit by a pitch and stole second base. He scored on a Stotler single.
SHU used the long ball in the seventh inning to put up a six spot.
Chris Law homered to lead off the inning. Denny followed with a triple down the right field line. DiAndreth scored Denny with a sac fly to make it 6-4. Stotler singled and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on a
Craig Lewis double. Grieco singled to put two runners on and pinch hitter
Tommy Pellis drove a ball over the left center field wall to give SHU a 10-4 lead.
The Golden Knights answered back with two runs in their half of the seventh to cut the SHU lead to 10-6.
Stotler and Grieco led SHU with three hits each. Pellis and Law each aded two hits. Pellis drove in three.
Marshall McGraw earned the win. He went 3.1 innings and struck out 5.
Seton Hill will meet the winner of the CalU/Millersville matchup on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM.
