Softball Drops PSAC Tourney Opener to West Chester

Seton Hill opened their third straight PSAC Tournament with a matchup with the top seed from the east West Chester at Quakertown's Veterans Park on Wednesday afternoon.  West Chester scored five runs in the middle innings in route to a 5-2 victory over the Griffins.  SHU falls to 28-17 overall while the Rams improve to 33-17.

West Chester loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first inning but starter Devyn Terry was able to get a strikeout and fly out to end the inning.  The Rams broke thru in the third inning.  They got a one out single and followed it with a two run homer to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins.

The Griffins got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth inning when Christiana Skrabak homered to lead off the inning.

The Rams used four singles in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 5-1.

SHU threatened in the top of the fifth when Abbie Thrower drew a leadoff walk.  After an out, Jenna Osikowicz singled and when both runners moved up on a wild pitch the Griffins had runners at second and third with one out.  The Rams were able to get two strikeouts to end the inning.

Seton Hill used some two out magic to score in the sixth inning.  Alexis Vargas singled and scored when Terry doubled.

Osikowicz and Vargas each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU wil now meet the loser of the Kutztown/Bloomsburg matchup in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at noon.
