Softball Splits Pair With Slippery Rock

Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon with a home doubleheader with Slippery Rock after a day off on Friday for a rain out.  The Rock took a 6-0 win in game one before the Griffins responded with a 3-1 win in game two.  SHU is now 18-10 overall and 4-2 in PSAC play.

Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in game one until the fourth inning.  The Rock took advantage of a Griffin error and followed that with a three run homer later in the inning for a 3-0 lead.  The Rock added another run in the fifth to increase their lead to 4-0.

Slippery Rock increased their lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning with a two run homer.

Jenna Osikowicz paced the offense with a double.

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two.  Christiana Skrabak led off the inning with a single.  After a ground out, Samantha Estupinian walked to put runners on first and third.  Abbie Thrower knocked in Skrabak with a sacrifice fly to give SHU a 1-0 lead.

SHU added two more runs in the third.  After one out, Osikowicz was hit by a pitch.  Morgan Toal followed with a single to put runners on first and second.  Skrabak walked with two outs to load the bases.  Nichole McClendon singled with two outs to score two runs and give SHU a 3-0 lead.

The Rock picked up an unearned run in the fourth to trim the lead to 3-1.

The Rock had two runners on in the seventh but Skyla Greco got three strikeouts to end the game.

Greco earned the win with a complete game.  She gave up one unearned run on four hits while striking out six.  Toal led the Griffins with two hits.

SHU will continue PSAC play on Sunday when they travel to Mercyhurst for an 11 AM doubleheader.
