Seton Hill closed out the regular season portion of their schedule with a home doubleheader against California (PA).
Devyn Terry no hit the Vulcans as SHU took game one by a 1-0 score. California (PA) earned the split with a 3-2 win in game two. SHU is now 28-16 overall and 13-7 in PSAC West play, good for second place in the West.
Both teams were kept off the scoreboard in the first three innings. SHU had just two hits while the Vulcans did not have one.
The Griffins finally broke thru in the fifth inning. After an out,
Alexis Vargas doubled to the right center gap.
Devyn Terry followed with a single to put runners on first and third. After a caught stealing,
Abbie Thrower came thru with a big two out RBI single to score Vargas and give SHU a 1-0 lead.
Terry earned her 15
th win in the circle with the complete game shutout. She did not give up a hit while striking out 5.
Chelsea Rohan and Terry each had two hits.
SHU jumped on the Vulcans in the bottom of the first inning of game two. With one out
Jenna Osikowicz reached on an infield single. She scored when
Christiana Skrabak doubled off the right field wall to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
The Griffins loaded the bases in the third inning when Osikowicz doubled with an out. Skrabak walked and Rohan singled to load the bases but two fly outs ended the inning.
The Vulcans tied the score at one with a leadoff homer to start the fifth inning. They took the lead that inning with two single.
SHU threatened again in the fifth but left the bases loaded.
Seton Hill tied the game in the seventh inning. With two outs, Thrower doubled. Pinch runner
Raelyn McGarry scored to tie the game on a single from
Nichole McClendon.
Cal took advantage of a two out Griffin error to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning.
Osikowicz and Rohan each had three hits.
The Griffins will return to action on Wednesday at the PSAC Tournament in Quakertown, PA. They will meet top seed out of the east West Chester at 3 PM.
