The men's lacrosse team closed out their regular season with an important North Region contest on the island against LIU Post. SHU earned an important 11-9 regional win. SHU is now 12-3 overall.
The Pioneers scored twice within fifteen seconds to take an early 2-0 lead on the Griffins. They increased their lead to 3-0 before
John Miller scored a man goal down to trim the lead to 3-1.
Bennett Johnson closed out the scoring in the first period with a goal with just over two minutes to play.
LIU Post scored the first goal of the second quarter to increase their lead to 4-2. They added two more to take a 6-2 lead with just under 11 minutes left in the second quarter. Goals from Miller and
Brett Craig trimmed the lead to 6-4 with 5:39 to play.
Collin Mitchell cut the lead to 6-5 with 4:19 left in the half. Post scored the final goal of the half to take a 7-5 halftime lead.
Two goals from
Bennett Johnson and one from
Robert Hofseth put the Griffins in front 8-7 midway thru the third period. LIU Post tied the score at 8 with a goal with 6:10 to play.
Ryan Manbeck opened the fourth quarter scoring and Johnson scored to push the SHU lead to 10-8 with 11:21 to play. Twenty eight seconds later, Post cut the lead to one.
Robert Hofseth gave the Griffins a two goal lead at 11-9 with 5:19 to play in the game.
Johnson led the Griffins with 4 goals and an assist. Miller added two goals and an assist.
Robert Hofseth added two goals.
Max Eismann added 12 saves in the win.
The Griffins return to action Thursday afternoon when they host the G-MAC semifinal.
