Seton Hill closed out their four game set with California (PA) with a home doubleheader on Monday afternoon. California got a game ending double play to end game one for a 3-2 win. The Vulcans completed the sweep with a come from behind 10-6 win in game two. SHU is now 20-18 on the season and 11-9 in PSAC West play. Cal is now 30-9 on the season and 15-5 in PSAC West play.
California jumped on the Griffins for three runs in the top of the third inning. They used a homer and two doubles to score three runs. The Griffins got one of those runs back with a solo homer from
Nick Stotler in the bottom of the inning.
SHU threatened in the seventh inning.
Tommy Pellis doubled to lead off the inning. After a groundout,
Isaiah DiAndreth singled thru the left side to trim the lead to 3-2. Pinch hitter
Craig Lewis singled to put runners on first and second with one out.
Jordan Fiedor reached on an error to load the bases but a double play ended the game with the bases loaded and Cal escaped with the 3-2 win.
California took advantage of a leadoff walk in the second inning of game two to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins.
The Griffins took a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Fiedor led off the inning with a single. After a strikeout,
Austin Braendel singled to put runners on first and third. Stotler then reached on a bunt base hit to score Fiedor.
Andrew Chuba singled thru the box to knock in Braendel and Stotler scored when he avoided a tag on
Ryan Grieco's bunt.
The Vulcans got one of those runs back in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2. SHU got that run right back in the bottom of the inning. DiAndreth led off the inning with a triple and scored on a
Parker Denny sacrifice fly.
California scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead.
The Griffins took advantage of two hit batters and a wild pitch in the sixth to score a run on a RBI groundout from Chuba.
The Vulcans picked up four insurance runs in the seventh thanks to two walks and an error and increased their lead to 10-5.
Chuba and Fiedor each had two hits for the Griffins.
SHU takes a break from PSAC West play as they travel to Lock Haven for a non conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
