Game Recap: Baseball |

SHU Swept at Home by CalU

Seton Hill closed out their four game set with California (PA) with a home doubleheader on Monday afternoon.  California got a game ending double play to end game one for a 3-2 win.  The Vulcans completed the sweep with a come from behind 10-6 win in game two.  SHU is now 20-18 on the season and 11-9 in PSAC West play.  Cal is now 30-9 on the season and 15-5 in PSAC West play.

California jumped on the Griffins for three runs in the top of the third inning.  They used a homer and two doubles to score three runs.  The Griffins got one of those runs back with a solo homer from Nick Stotler in the bottom of the inning.

SHU threatened in the seventh inning.  Tommy Pellis doubled to lead off  the inning.  After a groundout, Isaiah DiAndreth singled thru the left side to trim the lead to 3-2.  Pinch hitter Craig Lewis singled to put runners on first and second with one out.  Jordan Fiedor reached on an error to load the bases but a double play ended the game with the bases loaded and Cal escaped with the 3-2 win.

California took advantage of a leadoff walk in the second inning of game two to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins.

The Griffins took a 3-1 lead in the second inning.  Fiedor led off the inning with a single.  After a strikeout, Austin Braendel singled to put runners on first and third.  Stotler then reached on a bunt base hit to score Fiedor.  Andrew Chuba singled thru the box to knock in Braendel and Stotler scored when he avoided a tag on Ryan Grieco's bunt.

The Vulcans got one of those runs back in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2.  SHU got that run right back in the bottom of the inning.  DiAndreth led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Parker Denny sacrifice fly.

California scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead.

The Griffins took advantage of two hit batters and a wild pitch in the sixth to score a run on a RBI groundout from Chuba.

The Vulcans picked up four insurance runs in the seventh thanks to two walks and an error and increased their lead to 10-5.

Chuba and Fiedor each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU takes a break from PSAC West play as they travel to Lock Haven for a non conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
