Seton Hill and California (PA) made up their cancelled doubleheader from last Friday on Tuesday afternoon at Seton Hill. The Griffins were the road team in the games with Cal playing all of their games on the road due to field problems. SHU broke out the bats in game one with 14 hits in a 9-2 victory over the Vulcans. Cal shutout the Griffins 2-0 in game two to split the pair of games. SHU is now 23-13 overall and 8-4 in PSAC West action.
It did not take the Griffins long to get on the scoreboard as
Brooke Bower hit the second pitch of the game over the left field wall to give SHU the early 1-0 lead.
The Griffins added three more runs in the third inning.
Nichole McClendon singled to lead off the inning. After an out she stole second base. McClendon then scored when
Jenna Osikowicz singled to left center field to put the Griffins in front 2-0.
Christiana Skrabak then followed with a two run shot to left center field to give SHU a 4-0 advantage.
Cal hit a two run homer in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Griffins lead in half. Skrabak singled with one out in the fifth and scored when
Chelsea Rohan homered over the left center field wall to give SHU a 6-2 lead.
SHU added three more insurance runs after two outs in the sixth. Bower walked and moved to second on an Osikowicz single. Both runners scored when Skrabak tripled. Skrabak scored when Rohan reached on an error.
Devyn Terry earned her twelfth win with a complete game five hitter. She struck out seven. Osikowicz and Skrabak each had three hits. Rohan and Vargas finished with 2 hits. Skrabak drove in four runs.
Game two was all about the pitching. The Griffins were able to get seven hits in the game but could just not get a hit to scratch across a run.
Cal scored the only two runs of the game with a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Megan Miller paced the Griffins with two hits.
SHU returns to action on Thursday afternoon when they host Mercyhurst in a PSAC West doubleheader.
