Baseball Wins Series with Mercyhurst

Seton Hill hosted Mercyhurst to close out their four game set on Monday afternoon.  The Lakers scored seven times in the fifth inning in route to a 9-3 game one win.  SHU earned the series win with a 10-4 win in game two of the doubleheader.  SHU is now 19-15 overall and 10-6 in PSAC West action.

It did not take long for the Griffins to jump on the board first as leadoff hitter Andrew Chuba drove a 3-1 pitch over left field wall for a 1-0 lead.

SHU increased their lead to 2-0 in the second inning when Chuba hit his second homer of the day, this one with two outs.  The Griffins added another run in the fourth.  With  one out Jordan Fiedor singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.  He scored on an Austin Braendel single to left field that gave SHU a 3-0 lead.

The Lakers took advantage of a Griffin error to lead off the fifth inning and followed that with five hits to score seven runs and take a 7-3 lead over the Griffins.  They added two more in the sixth inning.

Chuba and Fiedor led the offense with two hits.

SHU jumped on front in the first inning of game two as well.  Chuba drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on a Chris Law homer over the left center field wall.

The Griffins scored five times in the third inning.  Austin Braendel led off the inning with a homer to left center field.  Five straight singles produced four runs.  Tommy Pellis started the string.  Law, Isaiah Diandreth, Brandon Kline and Fiedor each followed with RBI doubles.

Seton Hill added another run in the fourth on two walks and a balk.

Mercyhurst scored three times in the fifth to cut the lead to 8-3.  SHU got two of those runs back in the fifth, one on a double steal and the other on a Fiedor RBI single.

Marshall McGraw earned his third win of the season.  He went 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6.  Law, Kline and Fiedor each had three hits.  Law drove in 3 and Fiedor drove in 2.  Chuba drew 4 walks and scored 3 runs.
