After getting rained out at home on Friday, SHU returned to action on Saturday afternoon in Edinboro with a PSAC West doubleheader against the Fighting Scots. SHU won the opener by a 4-2 score before completing the sweep with a 7-1 win. SHU is now 22-12 overall and 7-3 in PSAC West play, good for first place in the standings a game ahead of second place Gannon.
SHU scored first in game one in the top of the second inning.
Alexis Vargas led off with a single and moved to second on a failed pick off attempt. Vargas scored when
Morgan Toal doubled to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
The Griffins increased their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Christiana Skrabak led off the inning with an infield single. She moved up on a
Chelsea Rohan sacrifice bunt. After a groundout,
Nichole McClendon was hit by a pitch. Both runners scored when Vargas tripled to center field.
Seton Hill added another run in the fourth. With one out
Brooke Bower doubled.
Jenna Osikowicz was hit by a pitch. Skrabak then singled to drive in Bower and make it 4-0. Edinboro scored twice in the seventh inning but starter
Devyn Terry got a strikeout to end the game.
Terry earned the win in the circle with a complete game. She gave up four hits and struck out six. Skrabak paced the offense with three hits. Bower, Vargas and Toal each added two hits.
Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first three innings of game two. SHU finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Skrabak homered to left field with one out. Rohan followed with a single and Vargas was hit by a pitch.
Megan Miller then singled to knock in Rohan and increase the lead to 2-0.
Edinboro cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth. The Griffins broke the game open in the fifth with four runs. Two errors and an Osikowicz single loaded the bases with no outs. Skrabak was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Three runs then scored when Rohan reached on an error to give SHU a 6-1 advantage.
Ashley Boehm tripled to lead off the sixth inning. Bower reached on an infield single to put runners on first and third. Boehm and Bower then executed a double steal to make it 7-1.
Skyla Greco earned the win with a complete game five hitter. She struck out three in the win. Skrabak, Rohan and Miller each had two hits.
SHU will return to action on Tuesday when they take on California (PA) at home in a make up game from Friday.
