Seton Hill closed out their Florida trip with a matchup with Winona State on Saturday afternoon in Kissimmee. The Warriors scored six runs in their final four at bats, three in the ninth inning, for a 10-9 come from behind win over the Griffins. SHU drops their sixth straight contest and falls to 4-7 overall. Winona State is now 6-2 on the season.
Winona State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after three straight singles. SHU responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning.
Jordan Fiedor led off with a double.
Andrew Chuba walked and both moved up on a
Nick Stotler sacrifice bunt.
Tommy Pellis singled in Fiedor to tie the game at one. Later
Ryan Grieco was hit by a pitch to force in the second run.
The Griffins made it 3-1 in the second on a double steal from Fiedor and Chuba. WSU picked up an unearned run in the third to trim the lead to 3-2. SHU got that run right back as Pellis led off the third with a solo shot.
A Warrior two run homer tied the game in the fourth inning. The Griffin offense then strung together some hits in a four run fifth inning. Stotler led off with a double. Pellis followed with a two run shot to give SHU a 6-4 lead. After an out, Grieco doubled and scored when
Isaiah DiAndreth tripled.
Kailen Grimm then knocked in DiAndreth with a perfect squeeze bunt to put the Griffins in front 8-4.
The Warriors got single runs in the sixth and seventh to cut the lead to 8-6 but
Parker Denny led off the seventh with a solo homer to push the lead back to 9-6.
Winona State trimmed the lead to 9-7 in the eighth and then scored three times in the ninth. Their ninth inning started off with a Griffin error which led to two of the runs being unearned. The Griffins got a runner on in the ninth but a double play ended the game.
Pellis led the offense with 3 hits, including the two homers. Fiedor, Denny, Grieco and DiAndreth each added two hits.
SHU is scheduled to host Point Park in a single 9 inning game on Wednesday afternoon.
