Griffins Drop Double Overtime Contest at St Leo

Seton Hill continued their spring break trip with a matchup with undefeated St Leo on Wednesday evening.  The Griffins gave the Lions all they could handle, taking the game into double overtime, but the Lions scored 50 seconds into the double overtime for a 14-13 win over the Griffins.  SHU is now 1-2 on the season and the Lions are 4-0.

Less than a minute into the contest, Keagan Pontious gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  St Leo scored four of the next five goals to take a 4-2 lead over the Griffins with 23:49 to play in the first half.  The Griffins then went on a four goal run, two by Mackenzie Kilduff and one each from Pontious and Olivia Caragein put the Griffins in front 6-4 with just less than ten minutes to play in the half.

After the Lions tied the score at six, Kate Kada put the Griffins in front 7-6.  Kilduff gave SHU am 8-7 lead at the half with her fourth goal of the half.

Kada opened the scoring in the second half to push the Griffins lead to 9-7.  Three straight from the Lions gave them a 10-9 lead with just over 18 minutes to play.  Goals from Kilduff and Ellie Uecker put the Griffins back in front 11-10.  Trailing 12-11, the Griffins got goals from Taylor Fox-Trudel and Kilduff to take a 13-12 lead.  The Lions tied the score at 13 with a goal with 19 seconds to play in the half.

Hailey Jacobs made a big save in the first overtime period to keep the game tied but the Griffins could not take advantage and turned the ball over with a shot clock violation.  St Leo got a call to start the second overtime after the draw and took advantage of the break, scoring the game winner on that possesion.

Kilduff led the Griffins with 6 goals.  Pontious and Kada each scored twice.  Fox Trudel added a goal and 3 assists while Jaclyn Frank added 3 assists.  Jacobs made 14 saves in net.

SHU will conclude their spring trip with a contest at #11 Tampa on Saturday afternoon.
