After splitting on day one of their Florida trip, the Griffins softball team returned to the field on Monday afternoon and evening for another pair of games. The Griffins opened the day with a 6-5 win over Trevecca Nazarene. They closed out the day with an 8-6 win over Clarion in the nightcap. SHU is now 5-1 on the season.
Trevecca Nazarene took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two run homer. The Griffins answered with two runs in their half of the first.
Morgan Toal led off with a walk. After
Chelsea Rohan reached on a fielders choice, Toal scored on a
Christiana Skrabak single. Rohan scored to tie it on an infield single from
Alexis Vargas.
Trevecca added three more runs in the top of the second to take a 5-2 lead. Toal knocked in
Nichole McClendon with a single in the second to make it 5-3. The Griffins tied the score at five on RBIs from
Abbie Thrower and
Brooke Bower in the third.
The game remained tied until the fifth when Rohan homered with one out.
Skrabak led the offense with three hits.
Seton Hill scored three times in the top of the first inning against Clarion.
Jenna Osikowicz singled to lead off the game. With one out, Toal was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Skrabak hit a three run homer to give SHU a 3-0 advantage.
Clarion scored four times in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. They added another run in the third to take a 5-3 lead.
Rohan gave the Griffins a 6-5 lead with a three run homer in the fourth. She drove in Toal and
Raelyn McGarry who both singled.
The Golden Eagles tied the score at six in the fifth.
Rohan put the Griffins ahead for good in the sixth with an RBI single. The Griffins added an insurance run in the seventh on a McClendon RBI hit.
Skyla Greco earned the win in relief. She struck out 6 in 5 innings. Osikowicz paced the offense with 4 hits. Bower added three. Rohan and Toal finished with two.
The Griffins will be off on Tuesday before returning to action on Wednesday against Wheeling Jesuit and Cedarville.
