Game Recap: Baseball |

SHU Swept by Grand Valley in Florida

Two national powers met in a doubleheader in Kissimmee, Florida on Monday afternoon as Seton Hill met Grand Valley.  The Lakers came back for an 11-7 win in game one and completed the sweep with a 2-0 win in game two.  SHU is now 4-3 on the season while the Lakers improve to 4-4.

The Griffins got on the board in the third inning of game one.  Jordan Fiedor led off the inning with a double.  He scored on a Isaiah DiAndreth single.  Nick Stotler walked to put runners on first and second with no one out.  After two outs, Parker Denny doubled off the top of the wall to score two runs and give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.

Grand Valley scored six runs on five hits and used two Griffin errors to take a 6-3 lead over the Griffins in the fifth.  They added a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh to build an 11-3 lead.

SHU tried to rally in the seventh but came up short.  Tyler Zaluski led off with a walk.  After an out, Denny walked.  Zaluski scored on a Chris Law ground out to make it 11-4.  Andrew Chuba had a pinch hit RBI single to make it 11-5.  Fieldor and DiAndreth each added RBI singles but a fly out ended the game.

Fiedor and DiAndreth each had three hits.  Denny added two.

Grand Valley took a 1-0 lead in game two in the bottom of the first when a runner scored on a fielders choice.  In the Griffin third, Colton Carney led off with a single.  He moved to third on an error but two strikeouts and a pop out left him stranded at third.

The Lakers added a run on a balk in the fifth inning.

Four different Griffins singled in the loss.  Marshall McGraw suffered the loss in his first start.  He worked 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on 5 hits while striking out four.

SHU will next take on another national powerhouse on Tuesday afternoon as they take on Tampa at 3 PM.
