The Griffins took a break from PSAC West play on Tuesday as they made the trip to Shippensburg for a nine inning non conference contest. SHU rallied in the late innings but it was not enough to make up for the early 13-2 deficit in a 13-9 road loss. SHU falls to 10-11 on the season while the Raiders improved to 11-10 on the season.
Shippensburg jumped all over the Griffins first two pitchers as they scored twelve runs over the first three innings of the contest. SHU scored once in the top of the third when
Chris Law was hit after two outs.
Nick Stotler doubled and
Tommy Pellis singled to knock in Law and SHU trailed 12-1 after three innings.
The Griffins added another run in the fifth.
Ryan Grieco drew a leadoff walk.
Adam Bankovich doubled to put runners on second and third with no one out. Grieco scored on a Law sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 12-2. Ship scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 13-2 lead.
Isaiah DiAndreth doubled in
Parker Denny and
Andrew Chuba who both singled in the sixth to cut the Ship lead to nine.
The Griffins added four runs in the eighth. With one out,
Kailen Grimm was hit by a pitch.
Bayley Jamanis doubled to put runners on second and third. Grieco drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Law knocked in two runs with a single. Pellis then drove in two more to trim the lead to 13-8. Grimm knocked in Chuba in the ninth for the final runs of the game.
Pellis led the attack with two hits. Pellis and Law each drove in three. DiAndreth added two RBIs.
SHU returns to PSAC West action on Friday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a doubleheader.
