Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Responds with Sweep at Clarion

After dropping the first two games of their four game set on Saturday, the Griffins headed to Clarion on Sunday looking to salvage a series split with the Golden Eagles.  The Griffins responded with a sweep of Clarion on the road with a 5-3 win in game one and a 5-2 come from behind win in game two.  SHU is now 10-10 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play while Clarion falls to 11-12 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play.

Seton Hill came out of the gates quickly in game one, scoring three times in the first inning.  With one out, Colton Carney reached on an infield single.  Tommy Pellis walked and Parker Denny reached on an infield single to load the bases.  Nick Stotler knocked in Carney with a sacrifice fly.  The other two runners moved up on the play and both Pellis and Denny scored on a wild pitch to give SHU the 3-0 advantage.

Pellis increased the lead to 4-0 in the third inning with a solo shot to left field.  SHU added an insurance run in the sixth inning.  With two outs, Isaiah DiAndreth singled.  He scored on a Ryan Grieco double to push the lead to 5-0.

Clarion got back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Marshall McGraw earned the win, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on five hits while striking out 8.  George Coyle earned the save with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.  Seven different Griffins each had one hit.

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff homer.  Seton Hill tied the score at one in the top of the fifth inning.  With one out, Chris Law singled.  He moved to third on an Austin Braendel double.  Bayley Jamanis drove in Law with a sacrifice fly.

Clarion retook the lead in the sixth on a balk call.  The go ahead run scored on a balk called with two outs in the inning.

The Griffins responded in the top of the seventh with their backs against the wall.  Stotler led off the inning with a single up the middle.  Law followed with a single to put runners on first and third.  Braendel was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  After two strikeouts, Pellis hit the first pitch he saw over the left center field fence for a go ahead grand slam to put the Griffins in front 5-2.

Kenny Wells earned his first save of the season with a perfect seventh.  He struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Carney, Law and Braendel each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU returns to action on Tuesday afternoon with a single nine inning contest at Shippensburg.
