The Griffins opened up PSAC West play on Saturday as they hosted Clarion in the conference opener for both teams.  The Golden Eagles got the best of the Griffins as they swept the doubleheader.  Clarion won game one 9-1.  They completed the sweep with a 10-4 win in game two.  SHU is now 8-10 overall and 0-2 in PSAC play.  Clarion improves to 11-10 overall and 2-0 in PSAC play.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first three innings of game one.  Clarion scored four times in the top of the fourth on just three hits to take a 4-0 lead over the Griffins.  They added three more runs in the fifth after a walk and three consecutive hits.

SHU got a run back in the bottom half of the inning.  After one out, Colton Carney walked.  Adam Bankovich singled to put runners on first and second.  A fly out was the second out of the inning.  Freshman Brandon Kline then singled to center to drive in a run and get his first collegiate hit.  Clarion added two more runs in the sixth for the final two runs of the game.

SHU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.  After two outs, Tommy Pellis singled.  Parker Denny doubled off the center field wall to knock in Pellis and give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Clarion took a 4-1 lead with a three run homer in the top of the third.  Pellis trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the third inning with a solo homer.

The Griffins cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning.  With two outs, Austin Braendel doubled.  Carney followed with a single to trim the lead to one.

Clarion scored four times on three hits to extend the lead to 8-3 in the sixth.  They added two more runs in the seventh.
