Seton Hill closed out their regular season with a road contest at #8 Indiana (PA) on Saturday evening. SHU closed out the regular season in style as they used a 17-2 run in route to a 71-59 upset win over the Crimson Hawks. SHU is now 18-10 overall and 12-9 in PSAC play.
There was not much defense played over the first five minutes of the contest as the Griffins jumped out to a 14-11 lead at the first media timeout. SHU hit four three pointers, two from
Megan Marecic to take the lead. SHU continued to hold that lead as they took a 22-16 lead into the second quarter. Marecic paced the Griffins with 6.
Seton Hill extended their lead to 29-18 with 5:30 to play in the quarter on a three pointer from
Tiana Stewart. IUP then answered with five straight to cut the lead to 29-23 at the second quarter media timeout. A layin from
Cheyenne Trest and a three from
Samantha Kosmacki pushed the SHU lead to 34-24 before the Crimson Hawks got a bucket late in the half to trim the lead to 34-26.
IUP outscored the Griffins 6-2 to open the second quarter and trim the SHU lead to 36-32 with 5:52 to play in the third quarter. After the Hawks trimmed the lead to two, Marecic drained her third three of the game to extend the lead to 41-36 with 5:10 to play. Seven straight points from Marecic and a basket from Trest extended the lead to 47-40 but two IUP threes cut the lead to one. A Marecic layin at the buzzer gave SHU a 49-46 lead after three quarters of play.
IUP hit a three pointer with 6:30 to play in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 53. IUP took a 55-53 lead with 5:30 to play. Back to back three pointers from Cecere and Marecic gave SHU a 59-55 lead and the Griffins would not look back as they used a 17-2 run to pull away for a 71-59 victory.
Marecic paced the Griffins with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Cecere added 18 points and Trest finished with 14.
Seton Hill will now host Pitt Johnstown on Monday evening in the first round of the PSAC Tournament at 5:30 PM.
